Re: Life in Asgard - Writing Contest Rules of Submission

Cpt. Lassiter knew this was his last battle. A mercenary veteran pilot, having fought for many Altarian colonies, he knew he could not possibly win this. There were just too many pirates. It was a funny term, pirates. The word had not been used in millenia, not since the history of Earth, that infamous planet. His ship, a battered old Hades, was taking heat from Wasps. It was funny, to think that Altarians fought each other over resources whilst the Draconians slowly devoured space. He swore to himself, as another one of his allied ships, a drone thankfully this time, burned up, its titanite reinforced hull wracked with explosions. As long as no more pilots died.
They had been a small fleet of argon-laden ships, loaded from a raid nearby. Easy work. It was supposed to be an easy gathering mission, not some crazy hellstorm with ships and friends falling everywhere! In Space sector 3Z, a fleet of drone mark 2's attacked from above. Lassiter's forward vanguard, protecting the first of the two Hades, was wiped within seconds. From there, it really became hell. That forward Hades was only a version 2, it was possibly the oldest Hades still flying. Lassiter's ship was not much better. As the forward Hades engaged with the Drones, Lassiter assembled his small fleet, consisting of ten wasps, into an attack formation.

[Jump ahead two minutes.]

Hades 1's shields have been down for maybe 10 seconds, estimates Lassiter. He knows that's all the Drones need to destroy Thor 1. The Drones break out of their swarm (a pirate tactic) and close in for the kill. Lassiter watches from the bridge of Hades 2 with steely eyes. They take in all. The final buckling of Hades 1's hull. The explosions as the generator and engine are exposed to space. He hears the last screams of Sgt. Mays, commander of Hades 1, as the entire bridge buckles down on top of him.
Now it is Lassiter's turn. The Drones focus on him. There's maybe 50 or so left. The odds are not good for Lassiter. Lassiter yells into the microphone the order to attack. His voice is hoarse from giving commands. He realizes this may be the last time he hears his voice, as the Drones pick up speed.
The carnage is almost instant at the point of contact and horrendous. 4 Wasps go down in a matter of seconds, no match for Mark 2s. "If only they had gotten a few shots off," mutters Lassiter to himself. He flicks a switch, telling the gunner to charge up the laser and lock on to targets. The ship's computer shows that there are no friendlies remaining besides Hades 2, and 30 or so Drones remaining. Tough. He feels the adrenaline course through his body. Slowly, the seconds tick by as the Drones get closer...closer...until the pirates and Hades 2 upon fire, almost at the same time. He checks the info screen. Eyes almost pop when he sees that his shields are down. 13 enemy ships remain.
Lassiter can see the argon laden in their hulls-argon that was his! Gritting his teeth, he orders what remains of his crew to continue the punishment. A warning flashes on the screen. The hulls are ripped and space is seeping in, as oxygen and his crew filter out. Pulling a know, Lassiter shuts off the oxygen supply from the ship. He is surviving now on what air his ship can recycle. Opening up the airways again would only let in space, not oxygen. Computer 5776 shows that he is the only life form left. One thing to do now. He runs to the other side of the bridge, inputs a passcode into a computer marked "Do not use!"
An automated voice says,"Self-destruct in 10 seconds! Clear out!" He guides the ship slowly, slowly into the mass of drones
3...
So close to the center now!
2... their guns blast the xenoglass windows of the bridge to bits
1...
He sits in the Captain's seat, watching the ship rip to pieces as an explosive white force blows. His last action before the crush of space destroys him utterly is to look at the radar. All enemy ships down, it reads.
"Goodbye universe," he thinks, as the bridge implodes in itself.
Then there is only darkness...

I loved your piece, Xaol. Beautiful! You should write more often. I didn't even imagined you can make a whole story with units in the game. So cool.

PS. Next time you post, please use paragraphs separated by one blank line. This way, it is easier for the visitor to read your story. ;)
